Linksys / Velop Aware (2020)

Motion sensing with WiFi

Imagine being away from home with the peace of mind that your home is being monitored for human motion. No invasive, expensive cameras needed, no blind spots. Just every inch of your home monitored using the WiFi you already have. How do you show users when motion is happening? When it isn’t? When motion is coming from multiple places at once? Human motion? Pet motion?

This was the project I led along with an intrepid team at Linksys.

It’s a tale of redesigning from the ground up, with user needs at the forefront. It’s a tale of identifying, working with, and even taking comfort in constraints. It’s a tale of pushing, pivoting, and pushing some more to come up with something bold and new and truly useful.
